Alexis Mac Allister expects to “share a lot of years” with Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, even though the forward’s current deal with the club is nearing the end. Salah has stated that he is enjoying his final season on Merseyside before departing as a free agent in the summer. “I think that shows a little bit of who Mo is, his mentality,” Mac Allister explained.
Alexis MacAllister has weighed in on Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah’s contract predicament, saying he intends to “share a lot of years with” him.
The iconic Egyptian’s current contract is set to expire after the 2024/25 season, and he has recently made several comments implying that his time at the club is coming to an end.
Salah, who has revealed he is likely to play his final season at Anfield, scored to help Liverpool defeat Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, bolstering Arne Slot’s side’s Premier League title chances.
Following a long rivalry between the two teams, Salah hinted that Sunday’s victory could be his final home game against Pep Guardiola’s side.
“I think that shows a little bit of who Mo is, his mentality,” Mac Allister told ESPN Argentina, in response to Salah’s statement.
The midfielder went on to suggest that he hopes an agreement can be reached between the club and the player’s side, as well as for Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are also nearing the end of their current contracts.
“We want to share a lot of years with him [Salah], but that’s a personal decision,” Mac Allister told the reporter. “The club must make a decision, and we [the players] cannot intervene.
“Hopefully they can reach an arrangement because we want him, Virgil, and Trent to stay with us. “Hopefully, that will be the case.”
Salah departed Chelsea permanently in 2016, but he has been a revelation since returning to the Premier League with Liverpool the following year.
In 369 matches throughout all competitions, the forward has 224 goals and 100 assists, winning the league title, the UEFA Champions League, and three domestic cups.
Salah has now scored 24 goals this season, helping Liverpool lead the Premier League and Europe.
“When you see him every day, he’s a person who works very hard, who is tireless,” Mac Allister told reporters. “He is the first to arrive and the last to depart.
“[He is] always ready for whatever may arise. He brings that to the pitch, and he always comes through for us when big players get tougher. “That makes us all happy.”
Liverpool’s next challenge is a tough trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday. Slot’s team enters the match in excellent form, having won eight of their last nine Premier League games, with the only loss coming away to contenders Arsenal in October.
Following the Newcastle match, Liverpool will play their final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday, before Everton moves into their new home.
